Trace Social

Your apps. Without the feed.

You open Instagram to reply to someone and lose twenty minutes to Reels. Trace Social takes the endless part out and leaves the rest working.

One email, when it is ready. No newsletter, and no App Store date promised.

No backendThere is no account and no server. The app talks to the same websites your browser would, from your phone.
One line decides itA reel someone sends you and the Reels feed are different addresses. One plays, the other never opens.
Every rule is yoursEach block is a switch you can turn off. Nothing is hidden from you or decided on your behalf.

What changes

One line decides everything.

A reel someone sends you and the Reels feed are different addresses. Trace Social blocks the feed and lets the single one through, so the video your friend sent plays, and when it ends nothing is handed to you next.

Gone

  • Reels, Shorts and For You
  • Explore and discovery grids
  • Trending, Live and Spotlight
  • Suggested posts in your feed
  • Swipe-to-next after a video ends

Kept

  • Messages and group chats
  • Posts from people you follow
  • Search, so you can still find friends
  • Links and videos people send you
  • Your profile, stories and posting

How it works

Nothing leaves your phone.

Trace Social has no backend. There is no account, no sync and no server. The app loads the same websites your browser would, straight from your iPhone.

1. Open through Trace

A home screen of your apps. Tap one and it fills the screen, with the feed surfaces already stripped out.

2. Shield the originals

Screen Time puts a shield on the real apps, so the calm version is the easy one to reach rather than a thing you forget you installed.

3. Tune it

Every rule is a switch. Turn Explore blocking off if you want it, or turn a whole app off. Your choices, on your device.

Being straight with you

It is early.

Instagram and YouTube work well. TikTok, X, Facebook and Snapchat are rough: their websites leave out a lot of what their apps do, and the app marks them as beta for that reason. There is no release date and it is not on the App Store.
