Meeting notes that stay put.
AI note takers send the recording of your meeting to a server to be transcribed and summarised. Trace Notes does both on your iPhone, so the conversation never leaves the room.
One email, when it is ready. No newsletter, and no App Store date promised.
The meeting is the sensitive part.
Salary talks, a one-to-one that went badly, a client's numbers, a lecture you paid for. The recording of a meeting is often the most private thing on your phone, and the usual way to get notes from it is to hand it to somebody else's server.
Trace Notes gives you the transcript and the summary without that step.
Nothing leaves your phone.
Trace Notes has no backend. Recording, transcription and the summary all happen on the device, which is why there is nothing to log.
Press record
Put the phone on the table at the start of the meeting or lecture. It records through the microphone like a voice memo, with no bot joining the call.
It writes it up
When you stop, the recording is transcribed and summarised on the iPhone: the decisions, the key points and who said they would do what.
Search it later
Every meeting becomes text you can search. Find the call where the deadline moved, or the lecture that covered the topic in the exam.
Ask before you press record.
Keeping the audio on your phone protects it from everyone else. It does not make recording people without telling them all right. In many places the law requires everyone in the conversation to agree, so say when you are recording.

Questions.
- What is Trace Notes?
- Trace Notes is a note taker for iPhone. It records a meeting, lecture or call, transcribes it on the device and writes a summary with the key points and action items. There is no account and no server, and the audio never leaves your phone. Trace Notes is in development.
- How is Trace Notes different from Otter or other AI note takers?
- Most AI note takers upload the recording to a server, where it is transcribed and summarised and usually stored. Trace Notes does the transcription and the summary on your iPhone, so the recording of your meeting is never sent to a company and there is no copy of it anywhere but your phone.
- Does Trace Notes join my Zoom or Teams calls?
- No. Trace Notes does not join calls as a bot. It records through your iPhone, the same way you would record a voice memo, which means nothing is added to the call and nobody else has to install anything.
- Do I need permission to record a meeting?
- Often, yes. The rules on recording conversations vary by country and by US state, and many require everyone present to agree. Trace Notes leaves that decision with you; tell people when you are recording.
- Does Trace Notes work offline?
- Yes. Because transcription and summaries are computed on the chip in your iPhone, Trace Notes works with no network at all, including in aeroplane mode.
- Is Trace Notes available to download?
- Not yet. Trace Notes is in development and there is a waitlist at yourtraceapp.com/notes. The other Trace app, Trace Voice, is out now on the App Store.
